In preparation for the World Day of the Sick, which is observed by the Catholic Church on February 11 each year, Priests for Life has announced today a prayer campaign by which those who are ill offer their sufferings for the unborn.
Priests for Life has composed a new prayer in English and Spanish that gives those suffering from physical illness an opportunity to pray that the unborn will be valued and protected, and that the violence of abortion will come to an end. A Prayer of Offering by the Sick for the Unborn, written by Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, can be found at www.priestsforlife.org/novenas/offer-suffering-for-unborn.aspx
“We invite priests and those who minister to the sick to share this powerful prayer with those they care for,” said Father Pavone. “Although the sick and those who are homebound are carrying the burden of their own illnesses, they are still active and necessary members of the Body of Christ and their prayers for their vulnerable brothers and sisters in the womb will have a special resonance.”
“We are asking our Priests for Life family, and especially the Missionaries of the Gospel of Life, to spread this initiative starting today, among their relatives, friends, and parishioners, and also to those with whom they are connected online. Those who commit to say this prayer are asked to indicate that commitment on the prayer form at www.priestsforlife.org/novenas/offer-suffering-for-unborn.aspx. It is especially appropriate that we launch this campaign so close to Christmas, the Feast of the Incarnation, when we remember that God has immersed himself in our humanity and joined himself to our joys as well as our sufferings,” Fr. Pavone stated.
